Increasing the sustainability of coral reef small-scale fisheries
Our group is engaged in several projects to facilitate the management of coral reef fisheries via supporting local communities.
In collaboration with colleagues from Conservation International, we investigated the feasibility of an array of market-based interventions for improving reef fisheries sustainability.
In Hawai‘i, we are helping to implement community-based coral reef fishery monitoring efforts based on data collected by fishers themselves and are leading a project reconstructing long-term patterns in coral reef fisheries dynamics from historical catch data.
Through environmental nonprofits including Conservation International and Bloomberg Vibrant Oceans Initiative, we are focused on assessing the potential of coral reef fisheries to help alleviate malnourishment and food insecurity.
