Biogeography of the Caribbean and Tropical Eastern Pacific

In collaboration with Ross Robertson at Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, this work investigated the biogeographic configuration of coastal waters in the Caribbean Sea and Tropical Eastern Pacific from the first comprehensive databases of shorefish species distributions for these regions. These studies identify hotspots of shorefish diversity and endemism for conservation attention, and reveal the important role of habitat distribution (rather than dispersal limitation) in structuring biogeographic patterns.
